BJP Tea Cell rejects wage agreement

DIBRUGARH, April 11 � The BJP Tea Morcha on Friday staged a demonstration in front of the office of the Deputy Commissioner here in protest against the controversial tea garden workers wage agreement signed between the Assam Chah Mazdoor Sangha (ACMS) and the Consultative Committee for Planters Association (CCPA) recently.

The BJP Tea Morcha has termed the wage agreement illegal and unacceptable. ATTSA leader turned BJP Tea Morcha leader, Ashok Oraon has demanded of the State Government to reject the agreement and urged the Tarun Gogoi-led State Government to increase the wages to Rs 300.

In a memorandum submitted to the Chief Minister through the district administration on Friday, the BJP Tea Morcha also demanded wage for Sundays. The BJP Tea Cell questioned the Chief Minister as to who authorised the ACMS to deprive the tea garden workers a just wage for their hard toil.

Our Tinsukia Correspondent adds: Demanding immediate withdrawal of the recently-signed pact between the Asom Chah Mazdoor Sangha (ACMS) and the Tea Planters Association (CCPA) in regard to the fixation of daily wages for the tea workers and to fix their daily wages at Rs 300 including wages for Sundays, the Tinsukia District Committee of the Bharatiya Janata Party Tea Morcha, staged a two-hour dharna in front of the Deputy Commissioner�s office complex here on Friday.

The Morcha submitted a memorandum to the Chief Minister through the Deputy Commissioner urging immediate action in respect of their demands.

Meanwhile, hundreds of tea workers staged a road blockade programme at Bahadur Chariali on Friday due to non-implementation of the promised daily wage of Rs 169 to the tea plantation workers.
