DIBRUGARH, Dec 11 - The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Friday staged a demonstration in front of the office of the Deputy Commissioner here in protest against the alleged police atrocities on the members of the saffron party in Guwahati recently. The demonstration was part of the statewide protest against alleged recent high-handedness of the Tarun Gogoi-led Congress government on the BJP party.
Several hundred BJP loyalists from the district congregated in front of the office of the Deputy Commissioner here and raised anti-State Government slogans. The BJP protesters condemned the State Government for not allowing the BJP to hold protest rally in Dispur. The protest led by the district body of the BJP criticised the Tarun Gogoi government for using police force to disperse the BJP congregation at Dispur.
Ashok Oraon, spokesperson of the BJP�s tea cell, said that the people of the State would teach the Congress a lesson in the ensuing assembly polls.
UDALGURI: Along with other district headquarters, more than 100 activists of the Udalguri district committee of the BJP on Friday staged a two-hour sit-in demonstration against the Congress government of the State for its alleged police action against those taking part in a party demonstration at Dispur on December 9.
The BJP activists sat in front of the Bishnu Rabha Kristi Sangha auditorium at the heart of the town covering their faces with black clothes to symbolise the police autocracy, besides unabated corruption in the State. The sit-in demonstration was attended by Neelima Devi, state member of the party along with district president Keshab Baruah and other activists.
TINSUKIA: The Tinsukia district committee of the BJP resorted to a two-hour sit-in dharna in front of the District Library here on Friday in protest against the police atrocities upon the peaceful protesters of the party in Guwahati on December 9.
Bhaben Sharma, president of the district BJP, said the people of Assam would reply to the Congress Government in the coming election for its anti-democratic character through ballots.
