By Correspondent

SILCHAR, Oct 24 The Cachar unit of the Bharatiya Janata Party Cachar district unit has slammed Maulana Ataur Rahman Majharbhuiya, the Katigorah MLA, for his dubious stance on the recent Cachar bandh called by the party.

Kaushik Rai, the district BJP president, said that the veteran MLA expressed solidarity to the appeal by the district administration to maintain peace and harmony in the district during an all-party meeting convened by the Deputy Commissioner. But quite against the run of play, the MLA gave instigating statements to the media hosting a press conference separately, saying that the rural population will take control of the BJP cadres if they overdo anything. Rai added to say that the MLA had also told the press that the BJP has links in the recent incident at Karimganj that resulted in the vandalism at National Highway point here on October 16. People know the dual nature of the Katigorah MLA. If his statements are a way to challenge us we accept it. He must come out with a clear stance on his statement, Rai said. The BJP believes Ataur Rahman has direct links behind October 16 incident and has the details and the administration must investigate this, the BJP president said.

Further, the BJP district leaders also criticised the role of Sonai MLA Enamul Haque and former Border Area Development Minister Siddeque Ahmed for their comments which the leaders believe is detrimental for the society.

Brushing aside the allegations against him of fuelling social discord, the local MLA Dilip Paul said that Edil Ali Sadial, a Congressman came up to him during the bandh at the ISBT had told him that they had opposed the bandh. Paul said that it was the same person who spread the allegations against him. Former MP Kabindra Purkayastha said that the Congress party is worried with the way the poll results have turned out across the nation. Aminul Haque Laskar, the state general secretary echoed the veteran BJP leader saying that with the minority swapping sides, a change has ushered in the political platform The Congress is suffering from fear psychosis. The Congress MLA and ministers have taken up the role of commandants to create panic and tension among the people, Laskar said.
