BJP should build sampark with families of D-voters, farmers: Sushmita

By Staff Correspondent

SILCHAR, July 2 - Silchar MP and president of the All India Mahila Congress Committee Sushmita Dev slammed the BJP on Sunday saying that the JanSampark Abhiyan launched by the party is a manifestation of its corporate appeasement.

In reply to questions posed by the media on the Sampark Abhiyan, Sushmita said, it is quite startling to see the BJP leaders at the national level reaching out to people like Kapil Dev, Madhuri Dixit as a part of the Sampark Abhiyan while the poor farmers are committing suicide. In Assam, Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal is going to the residences of people who are well established instead of approaching people who are in distress like the families of D-voters and kin of the closed Cachar Paper Mill or even the flood victims. The Sampark Abhiyan is a big disconnect from the core issues of unemployment and poverty and the BJP should not divert the real and burning issues with its well-designed packages. This is not the reason people voted the party to power.

Further, taking a potshot at the Chief Minister, Sushmita quipped that people of Assam have got a fantastic spiritual leader instead of a political figure who is tightlipped on the major issue of citizenship. In her words, when the Congress and other parties have made their positions clear on the Citizenship Amendment Bill 2016, what keeps the Chief Minister to stay mum on the issue so far?

Speaking on the strategies of the Prime Minister in winning seats, the national president of the Mahila Congress committee said that the wave which brought the Prime Minister to power shall bring the biggest downfall in 2019 elections.People of the country have voted the BJP to power pinning hopes of getting their wishes fulfilled. But in the past four years, the Prime Minister has failed to turn the promises into performances and the consequences shall be proved in the 2019 Lok Sabha elections.

On the other hand, the Silchar MP expressed astonishment over the silence of the Chief Minister against the inflammable comments made by former ULFA leader Jiten Dutta. When Rahul Gandhi speaks against the Prime Minister, BJP leaders call out for punishment for him. Now when a person has literally challenged the Constitution, why is the Chief Minister silent, the MP questioned.
