BJP seeks spl consideration for genuine Indians left out of NRC

By The Assam Tribune

GUWAHATI, Aug 9 - With names of many people belonging to the indigenous communities and of those who hailed from other states of India missing from the draft NRC, the BJP wants special mechanism to ensure that such persons are not deprived during publication of the final Register.

Sources in the State unit of BJP told The Assam Tribune that the party wants the Centre to provide for some sort of special consideration for such people while preparing the standard operating procedure (SOP) for claims and objections.

Many genuine Indians were not able to make it to the draft NRC due to technical reasons. In some cases, governments of other states did not verify the documents sent to them by the NRC authority ... We want special consideration for such people because there is not even an iota of doubt about them being Indians, he added.

The leader said that over 70 per cent of those whose names did not make it to the draft NRC in Karbi Anglong district belong to the Hindi-speaking community.

Many from the Rabha community in Goalpara district have faced the same fate. On the other hand, over 90 or 95 per cent of the people have made it to the draft NRC in Bengali Muslim-dominated areas of Dhubri and Barpeta districts. How is that possible? said the ruling party leader.

Meanwhile, the BJP will activate its help desks at the district and block levels from tomorrow for people whose names have not figured in the draft NRC.
