BJP seeks PMs intervention

By Spl Correspondent

NEW DELHI, Aug 25 The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) today sought Prime Ministers intervention in easing the tension arising out of the inter-State boundary dispute, even as it urged Union Home Minister, P Chidambaram to visit the troubled spots to take stock of the situation.

Making a Zero hour Mention in Lok Sabha here this morning, Guwahati MP Bijoya Chakravarty requested Prime Minister, Dr Manmohan Singh, who was present in the House to take serious note of Assam, the State he represents in the Parliament.

Chakravarty further pleaded that Union Home Minister should visit this area to take stock of the situation and give protection to these people. Bitterness is already increasing, so that there should not be any more hardships to the people of this area, she said.

The MP alleged that Assam which has border disputes with neighbouring Arunachal Pradesh and Nagaland has already lost lot of land in Golaghat, Sivasagar and Jorhat districts.

Recently, on the August 14, in the Charaipung area of the Assam-Arunachal border, the armed local people supported by NSCN-IM attacked two villages Achimbasti and Hathirosa. These villages are in the border of Assam, she alleged.

In 1967, Assam-Arunachal border had been constitutionally demarcated. This area is divided by the river Teok. One side of the river is Assam and the other side is Arunachal. The villages which were attacked by the Arunachal people with the support of NSCN-I M fall under Assam.

Yesterday, when the Ministers of Assam visited that area, it has been reported that NSCN-IM, supported by the armed local people, attacked the people in these villages and resorted to firing.

We want peaceful relation and peaceful existence with all of the bordering areas of our State. So, I urge upon the Central Government to kindly take serious note of the situation.
