BJP releases list of candidates for Arunachal Assembly polls

ITANAGAR, March 17 - The Bharatiya Janata Party on Sunday released a list of its candidates for the ensuing Assembly elections in Arunachal Pradesh.

The party has announced the names of its candidates for 54 seats in the 60-member Arunachal Pradesh Assembly.

The Assembly elections in Arunachal Pradesh are due to be held on April 11 along with the Lok Sabha elections.

The prominent names in the list included that of Chief Minister Pema Khandu, Deputy Speaker Tumke Bagra and Advisor to Chief Minister, Japu Deru.

Notably, the list has the names of eight sitting Ministers, including Khandu, who will be contesting from Mukto seat in Tawang district, and his Deputy Chowna Mein, who will be trying his electoral fortunes from Chowkham leaving his home constituency, Lekang, to Jummum Ete Deori, one of three women candidates figuring in the list.

The Ministers making it to the list included Tamiyo Taga from Rumgong seat, Dr Mohesh Chai (Tezu), Alo Libang (Tuting-Yingkiong), Honchun Ngandam (Pongchao-Wakka), Wangki Lowang (Namsang) and Kamlung Mosang (Miao).

The two other women nominees are Dasanglu Pul, wife of former Chief Minister Kalikho Pul, contesting from Hayuliang seat and Gum Tayeng from Dambuk Assembly seat.

The list of candidates was finalised on Saturday by the Central Election Committee of the BJP that met under the presidentship of party chief Amit Shah. Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Home Minister Rajnath Singh, Finance Minister Arun Jaitley, External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj and all other members of the CEC were present in the meeting.
