BJP releases election manifesto for BTC polls

KOKRAJHAR, Nov 27 - The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), Assam Pradesh today released its election manifesto for the ensuing BTC elections scheduled to be held in two phases on December 7 and 10.

The party manifesto was ceremonially released at Tribeni Bhawan in Kokrajhar in the presence of BJP president Ranjeet Dass, NEDA convener and Cabinet minister Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma, central BJP secretary Dilip Saikia, former BPF leader Biswajit Daimary, who recently joined the saffron party, among others.

Addressing media-persons on the occasion, Dr Sarma said the party has emphasized on 50 issues of the BTC region. �I am confident that the BJP will form the next government in BTC with absolute majority. The corruption and commission raj in the BTC will be stopped once BJP comes to power,� he said.

�The party will work in the spirit of the BTR Accord and we will also decide if any village of the border wants to join the BTC,� he added.

Dr Sarma also revealed that the BJP is going to support Independent candidates in the constituencies where the party will not field its own candidates.

Expressing confidence over formation of a BJP-led BTC government, he said that the party has not yet projected anyone for the post of the BTC chief and that it will be decided after the results are declared. He also strongly criticized BPF supremo Hagrama Mohilary for alleged misappropriation of development fund during his regime.

In its poll manifesto, the BJP stated that Bodo and Assamese languages will be given equal importance and that both the languages will be taken forward simultaneously along with other languages. It further stated that the people staying in government land in BTC has the right to get land pattas and that the permission process for buying and selling of land will be completed within one month.

The manifesto further stated that a campus of Bodoland University in Udalguri, a medical college in Tamulpur, 40 stadiums and 30-bedded hospitals will be set up in each BTC constituency once the BJP comes to power. The party also assured high schools in tea gardens of the BTC area.

Another benefit to be provided by the party is that self-help groups will get Rs 50,000 and that additional funds will be released from the Centre for the developmental work in BTC.

The manifesto also assured colleges in every subdivision and withdrawal of the Village Community Development Council (VCDC) and Central Selection Board (CSB) in BTC. It also assured permanent appointment of local youths on merit basis in their respective districts, 10 percent job reservation for the economically weaker sections, develop tourism facilities, pure drinking water facilities, solving man-elephant conflict, etc.

Dr Sarma also attended a poll rally at Sarfanguri in Kokrajhar, which was attended by Dilip Saikia, Ranjeet Dass, among others.
