BJP ready to join anti-Cong, AIUDF front

By Staff Reporter

GUWAHATI, April 28 The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) today barly conveyed the message that it was ready to join an anti-Congress and AIUDF alliance to meet the expectations of the people of the State who wanted a non-Congress government.

The party on the other hand has held Health and Guwahati Development Department (GDD) Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma responsible for 7 important agreements stolen from the Guwahati Metropolitan Development Authority (GMDA) and has demanded a CBI inquiry into the incident.

Addressing mediapersons here, national general secretary of the party Vijay Goel said that the BJP was optimistic that a non-Congress government would be formed in Assam and assured that the party would remain committed to its promises made to the people of Assam no matter who comes to power.

The people of Assam are waiting with eagerness for the declaration of the election results because they want a change. All parties excepting the Congress and the AIUDF should come together on the same platform to fulfil the expectation of the people, said Goel, adding that the AGP and BJP might secure enough seats to form a government.

Goel said that the BJP had within its limitations contested the two-phase Assembly elections and was satisfied with the support of the people of Assam. He further said that the BJP would keep fighting for NRC update and freeing Assam of all foreigners as promised in its vision document.

It needs to be mentioned here that the party has decided to go for some sort of introspection to analyse its strength and mostly its drawbacks that raised their ugly heads in the run-up to the Assembly elections. A two-day meeting starting from today will discuss the performance of the party during the election.

On the other hand, State BJP president Ranjit Dutta who was also present in the press conference said that necessary action should be taken against Himanta Biswa Sarma for the stolen agreements. Fearing such developments, we had submitted a memorandum to the Chief Secretary requesting him that the important files should not be given to any minister until the new government is formed, said Dutta.
