GUWAHATI, Feb 6 - The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) today slammed Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi for overlooking the contributions of the 855 martyrs who had laid down their lives during the Assam movement for the cause of their motherland.
BJP spokesperson Bijon Kumar Mahajan, in a press statement, alleged that the Chief Minister, by not mentioning about the ultimate sacrifice of the martyrs in his speech during the formal inauguration ceremony of the Gas Cracker Project at Lepetkata on Friday, insulted both the martyrs and their family members.
Mahajan also alleged that the Congress-led State Government has betrayed the tea garden population of Assam by using them only as vote banks before every election. The State Government in its 15-year-rule had virtually left the tea community in the lurch without initiating any concrete welfare measure for them, he rued.
