BJP protest over power-cuts, traffic woes

By Correspondent

SILCHAR, June 1 The Bharatiya Janata Party, Town Mandal Committee on Saturday staged a sit-in protest against the frequent power-cuts and increasing traffic problem across the town.

Over 250 BJP members and workers from all the wards assembled outside the office of the Deputy Commissioner and protested against the unscheduled power-cuts. In the two-hour-long protest, the BJP cadres slammed the State Government for its apathy towards solving the acute problems faced by the people of the Barak Valley.

Dilip Paul, president of the BJP Town Mandal Committee said that the officials of the electricity board have literally surrendered accepting their failure to solve the crisis. The people, disgusted with the situation will expect the local administration to find a solution, he said.

We are tired with the excuses dished out by the electricity board officials for the power crunch. The people pay their bills and so they need uninterrupted power. The district administration must make necessary arrangements for power availability, Paul said.

The protesters also said that it is because of the administrative failure and inability of the police that the traffic issue has gone beyond proportions. Through a memorandum to the Deputy Commissioner, the BJP cadres demanded immediate solution to the problems affecting life at large.
