TURA, May 9 - Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) national spokesperson, Nalin Kohli, today sensationally predicted that the Congress-led MUA II Government would not last its whole term and fall under the pressure of its own weight.

In a press conference today, Kohli, who is in Tura to campaign for NPP candidate, Conrad K Sangma for the upcoming by-polls for Tura, said the election was unique. The election is unique in the sense that the Congress has put up posters not seeking a mandate for their candidate but not to vote for BJP, which does not even have a candidate, said Kohli.

Kohli was flanked by the NPP legislator and brother of Conrad, James K Sangma along with State BJP president, Shibun Lyngdoh and others.

The by-election is in memory and tribute to PA Sangma, son of the soil. He has represented Tura and became the Lok Sabha Speaker. His luminous political career cant be forgotten, Kohli said, when asked, why BJP did not field a candidate. He also stated that NPP is an alliance partner of BJP.

The mood of the election is becoming clear with every passing hour. People are against the Congress in Garo Hills. The national mood against Congress is also predominant. Mukul Sangmas government will soon collapse under its own weight, he added.

Kohli said Jual Oram, Union Minister of Tribal Affairs will add to the star power from May 11 in Tura. Talks are on with Kiren Rijiju and Sarbananda Sonowal to help in the campaigns, he added.

The BJP spokesperson also stated, Mukul is nervous as they lost the GHADC elections in his wifes constituency.

National Minority Morcha president Abdul Rashid will also campaign in Garo Hills between May 12-14. Questioning the Congress for trying to communalise the election and branding the BJP as anti-Christian and anti-Muslim, Kohli said, The comment shows that they (Congress) are uneasy and nervous.

He attacked Mukul and Dikkanchi for behaving like king and queen of Meghalaya. Meghalaya is not a kingdom. Mukul and Dikkanchi cant behave like a king and queen, he asserted. NPP legislator James K Sangma said, Mukul has failed to answer the questions raised by NPP candidate and is trying to divert attention of the public. He is vitiating the environment and is communalising this election. We hope he (Mukul) changes his ways.

Additional force for Tura bypoll

Shillong, May 9 - Union Home Ministry has allotted additional ten companies of Central Armed Police Force (CAPF) in the Garo Hills region ahead of the Tura bypoll, Chief Election Officer FR Kharkongor said.

He said the additional CAPF was expected to arrive shortly before May 16 apart from the 19 companies which were already deployed for counter-insurgency operations in the five districts going to polls on May 16. PTI
