GUWAHATI, Jan 30: The election manifesto of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) for the ensuing Assam Legislative Assembly polls will be prepared by taking into consideration the views of cross sections of people, said Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal.

Talking to The Assam Tribune, Sonowal said the BJP has set up a committee for preparing the party manifesto, and the committee has already started talking to cross sections of people to get their views and those would be incorporated in the manifesto. “We want to find out what people really want from us and the manifesto will be prepared accordingly. In a way, it will be the people’s manifesto and not a manifesto of only the BJP,” he said.

The Chief Minister claimed that the ‘grand alliance’ formed by the Congress, All India United Democratic Front (AIUDF) and Left parties would not have any impact on the poll prospects of the BJP and its allies – Asom Gana Parishad (AGP) and United People’s Party Liberal (UPPL). “People have seen our performance and we are confident that the people of Assam will cast their votes by assessing our performance,” he said.

Sonowal pointed out that the people of Assam extended wholehearted support to the BJP and its allies in all elections in the last four-and-a-half years.

He said that despite all-out efforts by the opposition parties, the BJP-led alliance did very well in all the elections, including the last Lok Sabha polls, panchayat polls and the bypolls to Assembly constituencies.

He said the BJP-led government has managed to create goodwill among the people with its performance and that was why people have shown support to the ruling alliance.

Sonowal said the BJP-led government has provided “corruption-free” administration to the people and a number of persons, including senior officers, have been put behind bars for indulging in corruption.

He said the government has managed to deal with the problem of insurgency to a great extent with the signing of peace pact with all four factions of the National Democratic Front of Boroland, while the Central government headed by Prime Minister Narendra Modi has started using the most modern technology available in the world to check infiltration of foreigners to the state.

The Chief Minister said that the present government has been the only one since independence to provide land patta to so many indigenous people, while there were success stories in all the major government departments.
