BJP plans stir against mega dams

By The Assam Tribune

GUWAHATI, Oct 24 (PTI) The Assam unit of the BJP today announced that it would launch a massive state-wide agitation in December against construction of mega dams in Arunachal Pradesh.

"The projects will have adverse downstream impact in Assam and the state government is apparently supporting it.

BJP is opposing the construction and would organise the agitation throughout the state" BJP state president Ranjit Dutta said.

Dutta said that Congress, being in power at the Centre, Assam and in Arunachal Pradesh could have stopped construction of the dams which were facing strong opposition from the local people if they wanted to.

On border problems with other north-eastern states, the BJP leader alleged that the state government had totally failed to solve the issue.

"The government has failed to solve the border as well as infiltration problems and BJP is going to highlight the issues in next year's Assembly election", he said.
