SHILLONG, April 8 - Meghalaya BJP today committed a major blunder by observing a two minutes silence to pay respect to actor Vinod Khannas departed soul at a public function and later apologised realising the actor was responding to treatment at the Hospital in Mumbai.
The faux pas happened during the ongoing celebration of BJPs 34th foundation day in which a Swachh Bharat Abhiyan was held at Jhalupara this morning. The BJPs National vice president, Avinash Rai Khanna, Jagdamba Mall, senior BJP leader and members from Meghalaya unit were present.
Party general secretary, David Kharsati addressed the gathering saying: before starting todays programme we will hold two minutes silence to pay respect to the departed soul of Vinod Khanna.
Realising the blunder, Kharsati later sent press releases to the media stating that the hoax about the actors death on social media has caused the mistake.
Meghalaya BJP wishes to clarify that as per latest reports Vinod Khanna is responding well to treatment. We wish him speedy recovery and long, healthy life, Kharsati said.
Khanna is the sitting BJP MP from Gurdaspur, Punjab. He defeated the Congress Pratap Singh Bajwa in 2014 to enter the Lok Sabha. The veteran actor was admitted to Sir HN Reliance Foundation Hospital, Mumbai on April 2 for severe dehydration. However, in recent days there have been several reports circulated in the social media about the actors demise.
