NEW DELHI, June 24 The Congress today accused the BJP of playing dirty politics in the North-east, alleging that attempts were being made to topple elected Congress governments in the region.

AICC general secretary V Narayanasamy and senior party spokesman Ajay Maken alleged that ever since the BJP government came to power, the Centre had been blatantly trying to destabilise duly elected Congress governments in the north-eastern states.

Unabashedly using their power at the Centre and through the political heavyweights in Delhi, the BJP is trying every trick to attain instability. These blatant efforts at destabilisation are not only threatening to divert the democratic will of the people, but have also created a security issue in the area after a long time. While the lives of security personnel are at risk on a daily basis, the people of the region are living under constant fear, the AICC alleged.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi was talking about high moral values and co-operative federalism; on the other hand, BJP president Amit Shah was indulging in disturbing duly elected Congress governments in the North-east, they alleged.

The Congresss apprehension is that Minister of State for Home Affairs Kiren Rijiju is plotting to destabilise the Nabam Tuki government by luring the Congress MLAs to the BJP.

In Arunachal Pradesh using the terror groups, the NDA government, with the support of the Home Ministry was threatening the Congress MLAs to defect from the party. The BJP through its workers was carrying out activities that were constantly creating a law-and-order situation in the state.

This is a clear-cut design of the BJP to destabilise the government and Union Minister of State Kiren Rijiju and BJP president Amit Shah are directly involved in this game, Narayanasamy said.

We will oppose tooth and nail the sinister design of the BJP to disturb the popularly elected government in Arunachal Pradesh, and also their sinister design to disturb Congress governments in the North-east, said the AICC leaders.

The Central government appointed Governors with RSS backgrounds who were acting as destabilising agents and be it the Home Ministry or the DoNER Ministry, all were working in tandem with the sole aim of grabbing power through the backdoor.

The Home Ministry and the MoS Home were directly involved in creating law-and-order problems in the North-east. MLAs of the Congress were being threatened through terrorist outfits to switch over to the BJP, thereby destabilising the governments, the AICC leaders said.

The Naga peace talks had failed because of the Home Ministrys failure to take all the terrorist outfits to the negotiation table, they alleged.

RN Ravi, the interlocutor for the Naga talks is said to be unhappy over the breakdown of the ceasefire agreement with the NSCN(K) and is believed to have conveyed to the Prime Ministers Office about alleged mishandling of the Naga rebel group by the Home Ministry. The entire Central government machinery and intelligence are being used to destabilise popularly elected governments, it has been alleged.

The Prime Minister had given his assurance to the people of North-east that within 18 months the Centre would resolve the Naga issues. But the NSCN(K) pulled out of the talks because of the attitude of the Home Ministry and today we find a disturbing situation in the entire North-east, said the Congress.
