BJP MPs hold protest demonstration

By Spl Correspondent

NEW DELHI, Dec 1 BJP MPs under the aegis of the Partys women cell on Wednesday staged a demonstration in the Parliament in protest against the recent attack on women from North-East in the national capital.

The protest demonstration held in the Parliament House this morning was also briefly joined by L K Advani, besides the three Lok Sabha MPs from Assam, Ramen Deka and Kabindra Purkayastha and Bijoya Chakravarty.

Displaying placards and raising slogans, the women MPs slammed the Central Government for failing to provide adequate security to the women in the national capital. Arrest the Guilty said a placard displayed by Maneka Gandhi, while another said Make Delhi Safe for our daughters from North-east. Stop Harassing North East Women said yet another.

Talking to newsmen, Advani said that the law and order situation in Delhi has deteriorated and has become a matter of grave concern. The BJPs women Parliamentarian have raised the issue of safety and security of women. He alleged that situation has worsened during the UPA regime as compared to the NDA regime.

Later talking to newsmen, Opposition Leader in Lok Sabha, Sushma Swaraj said that girls from North-East, who come to the national capital to study and work, come with high hopes and aspirations. But they face harassments. Delhi has become unsafe for women. The Dhaula Kuan rape incident is not the first, as a Mizo girl has become victim of rape and before that a girl from Manipur was raped, five years ago, the Opposition Leader charged.

Castigating the Centre, which is in charge of law and order in Delhi, Sushma Swaraj alleged police that inaction has emboldened the criminals. If the law and order in situation in Bihar, once considered the crime capital of the nation, could be improved, why cant Delhi, be made safe, she asked.

Delhi has now become the crime capital and Government of India is not doing anything, and even after seven days, not a single criminal has been caught, she charged.

Today, no women feel safe and the Government of India should be ashamed of it, she thundered.
