BJP memo to Governor on peoples grievances

By Staff Reporter

GUWAHATI, Sept 22 - The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), Assam Pradesh today called upon Governor PB Acharya to look into the grievances of the people of Assam and take up appropriate measures in the interest of the people.

The party submitted a memorandum to the Governor, highlighting the inefficiency and failure of the Tarun Gogoi government, and urged him for prompt response to address the issues.

It needs to be mentioned here that the partys 24-hour sit-in demonstration in protest against the misrule and failure of the Tarun Gogoi government concluded today.

The party, in its memorandum pointed out that though flood and erosion have been perennial problems, the government has never taken timely action to provide respite to the affected people. Because of lack of advance planning, the affected persons get deprived of relief. In the recent wave of flood the State government miserably failed to provide adequate relief to the marooned people and put the blame on the Central government. Despite having sufficient funds at its disposal, the State government did not take timely action for the flood-affected people, said the memorandum.

The party, while asserting that the Tarun Gogoi government had no moral right to continue in power, regretted that the government had failed to provide the basic minimum needs to the people. The party said that there was no administration worth the name in the State and that rampant corruption had crippled the entire administrative machinery.

The party pointed out that even after receiving huge funds under the Sarva Shiksha Abhijan from the Centre, the State government had failed to provide basic amenities to the primary schools in remote areas of the State. It also said that funds had been allocated by the Centre towards the midday meal scheme, but the same had not been properly implemented by the State government.

On the other hand, the party also alleged gross mismanagement and irregularities in the NRHM schemes. There are no adequate doctors in rural hospitals and medicines are not provided to the poor citizens and this has caused great hardships to the common people, said the memorandum.

The party rued the conditions of the medical colleges in the State. The party said that dearth of faculties had handicapped the newly-established medical colleges of the State.

The BJP in its memorandum also mentioned the poor road condition, erratic power supply, price rise, encroachment on sattra land etc., and urged the Governor for necessary action.
