BJP loyalists vandalize CPI (ML) hunger strike venue

By Staff Correspondent

DIBRUGARH, Oct 28 - The CPI (ML) activists who along with members of other organizations launched a 36-hour hunger strike in Rajgarh yesterday in support of their demand for a judicial probe into the SI recruitment exam scam and also in support of their demand for interrogating Tingkhong MLA for his suspected involvement in the scam, today faced threat from a group of BJP loyalists.

As per an FIR lodged at Rajgarh police outpost, the BJP supporters led by Ranjit Baruah, Pankaj Baruah, Ritu Bokolial, Saranga Bokolial, Turask Phukan, Subhankar Roy and Pankaj Gogoi vandalized the hunger strike venue, broke chairs, tore banners, placards and flags, smashed a mobile handset of CPI (ML) worker Kunti Tanti and also carried away some cash from the donation box.

The BJP workers reportedly threatened the protesters with dire consequences if they did not end the hunger strike immediately. They particularly issued death threats to CPI (ML) leader Bolindra Saikia, the partys district general secretary Bitupan Bokolial told newsmen.

Condemning the attack on the peaceful demonstrators, the CPI (ML) leader said that obstruction to democratic protest is a clear indication that Tingkhong MLA is gripped with fear because of his suspected involvement in the scam. By obstructing democratic protests, the ruling BJP party is only trying to shield the guilty, said Bokolial. The CPI (ML) has asked the police and the administration to immediately arrest the attackers and award exemplary punishment.
