DOOMDOOMA, April 30 - The Assam Pradesh Youth Congress Committee (APYCC) has criticised the travel itinerary of Phani Sharma, state general secretary of the BJP and in-charge of North East in Tinsukia district, and his participation at meetings at Tinsukia and Sadiya along with Labour Minister Sanjay Kishan and Digboi MLA Suren Phukan during the ongoing lockdown.
APYCC general secretary Masum Baruah in a press release stated that Sarma, a resident of the Red Zone containment area of COVID-19, visited Tinsukia district and held a party meeting at Manab Kalyan Bhawan, Tinsukia on April 26, which was also attended by Kishan and Phukan.
He wondered how a senior leader of the ruling party could defy the COVID norms and disregard the efforts of the Prime Minister in containment of the pandemic.
Baruah questioned the authority under whom the BJP leader travelled across the state. The Tinsukia district administration ought to be responsible for giving permission to hold the meeting or else the minister misused his power and violated the COVID-19 protocol, the Youth Congress leader said.
