DOOMDOOMA, Nov 10 - In a disgraceful incident at Kakopathar in Tinsukia district, one Deepanjali Kakoti, an executive member of the State BJP, allegedly physically assaulted a police officer inside Kakopathar Police Station on Sunday after the officer refused to set free a culprit who was brought to the PS for interrogation in connection with an FIR lodged against him.
According to reports, the BJP leader engaged in an altercation with sub-inspector Apurba Das over the release of her driver Srikanta Phukan who was wanted by police in connection with a case of assaulting a woman.
Initially, the BJP leader allegedly used abusive language claiming herself a close associate of the Chief Minister and later forcibly attempted to take out Phukan from the PS. When the sub-inspector prevented her from doing so, the BJP leader allegedly assaulted Das physically.
Later, Das filed an FIR against Deepanjali Kakoti and a case has been registered against her under the IPC but police is yet to take any action against the BJP leader.
Though the entire incident was recorded in the CCTV camera, police refused to share the video clippings with the media.
Doomdooma MLA Durga Bhumij has strongly condemned the incident. Terming the entire incident unfortunate, Bhumij demanded immediate arrest of the BJP leader.
