BJP launching negative campaign: Gogoi

By Staff Reporter

GUWAHATI, Nov 30 - Stating that the BJP was nervous following the Bihar Assembly poll debacle, Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi today accused the saffron brigade of launching a false propaganda and negative campaign ahead of the Assembly polls in Assam.

As it does not have anything positive to show for, it is indulging in a false propaganda against the Congress. If we are indeed as corrupt as charged by the BJP, let it institute a CBI probe against us. And if we have not accomplished anything in the past 15 years, why is the Centre sending money? he asked at a press conference.

Asserting that the State Government would publish a white paper on Central funding to the State during the UPA and NDA rules in the past 15 years, Gogoi said that the BJP did not want development in Assam as testified to by changes effected in funding patterns and by the withdrawal of the special category status State.

We will come up with a white paper on Central fund by December 20. This will clarify once and for all the controversies concerning Central funding during the UPA and the NDA regimes, he said.

Gogoi also alleged that the Centre failed to take up with China the matter of construction of big dams on the Brahmaputra in Tibet despite the ominous implications that the development had for a downstream region like Assam.

Why did Prime Minister Modi not taken up with the Chinese Government during his China visit if he is indeed serious about the interests of Assam? We may be a national party but regional interests matter most for us, he added.
