BJP launches poll campaign in Manipur

WANGOI (MANIPUR), March 24 - The ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Sunday launched its campaign for the Lok Sabha polls by offering prayers at the shrine of Lainingthou Sanamahi, an important Meitei deity, in the outskirts of the city.

Manipur Chief Minister Nongthjombam Biren Singh, BJP national leader Navin Kohli, who is in-charge of election in Manipur and Nagaland, and BJP Manipur Pradesh president and Rajya Sabha MP K Bhabananda attended the prayer session and election campaign in the small town, about 17 km from here.

The BJP candidates for Inner and Outer Manipur parliamentary constituencies, Dr RK Ranjan and H Shokhopao alias Benjamin Mate, also attended the campaign launch programme.

Speaking on the occasion, Chief Minister Biren Singh said Narendra Modi will come again as the next Prime Minister of India.

BJP spokesperson Kohli, speaking to the media on the sidelines of the election campaign, said that the party will fight the upcoming elections on a positive agenda to win both the Lok Sabha seats in Manipur and take part in strengthening the central leadership. According to BJP sources, the party will start its full scale campaign after the ongoing five-day Yaoshang festival comes to an end on March 25.
