BJP kicks off poll campaign in Lakhimpur

By CORRESPONDENT

NORTH LAKHIMPUR, March 14 The Bharatiya Janata Party today launched its poll campaign in North Lakhimpur for the 14 Lakhimpur HPC with the arrival of its candidate Sarbananda Sonowal here.

Sonowal, State president of the BJP, was given a rousing welcome by party workers and supporters here today, who escorted him in a large motorcade from Bandardewa.

Speaking exclusively to The Assam Tribune, the BJP candidate said that he was contesting from Lakhimpur Lok Sabha constituency because his birthplace Chabua in Dibrugarh district, falls inside this seat.

He said that people of Assam want a State free of foreigners and this would be possible only if the BJP comes to power at the Centre, led by Narendra Modi. Sarbananda Sonowal also promised to take the flood and erosion two most important problems affecting the Lakhimpur constituency to the national level, if elected.

The BJP candidate also said that the stand of the present government, both at the Centre and State, concerning the big dam issue over Subansiri had been confusing and promised to clarify everything.

Later Sarbananda Sonowal took part in party meetings for campaign in the district.

It may be mentioned that the stakes for Sarbananda Sonowal is quite high to win from this constituency. He is going all out to ensure his victory in this high-voltage contest against the Congress candidate Ranee Narah.
