SHILLONG, May 21 - BJPs friend-turned-foe, Ram Jethmalani for a change today had something good to say about the BJP in Assam, but nonetheless branded those at the Centre as corrupt.
Expressing his views on the results in Assam, the former Union Law Minister said the victory was due to some good people joining the BJP in Assam. Some good people probably have come in the BJP, he observed.
Jethmalani hoped that the BJP functionaries in Assam would be free from the influence of corrupt people sitting at the Centre. The senior lawyer made these observations at the sidelines of a two-day National Seminar here.
The former Minister said the BJP Government in Assam should work for the welfare and development of the people, adding: I hope that they will do something good in Assam.
Jethmalani was expelled from BJP in 2013 for rebelling against then BJP president, Nitin Gadkari. Ever since, he has been a known BJP-baiter and leaves no opportunity to attack the BJP-led NDA Government. Modi has cheated the country and the people, he said.
Stating the Congress-led UPA and the present Government both have promised to bring back black money, he alleged both the Governments have done nothing on this front so far. Both P Chidambaram (former Finance Minister) and Arun Jaitley are responsible for failing to bring back black money to India, he said.
Reminding the BJPs election promise to bring back black money stashed in tax havens abroad, Jethmalani said Modi made a strong and appealing argument against black money during the 2014 election campaign, but has done nothing so far on the promises.
