NEW DELHI, Sept 30 Leaving enough indications that the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is all set to use the land transfer deal with Bangladesh to corner the Congress Government at the State and the Centre, the partys national president, Nitin Gadkari on Friday attacked Chief Minister, Tarun Gogoi accusing him of compromising the States interest.

Let me reiterate that the Assam Chief Minister has compromised with the interest of the State in the Indo-Bangladesh land swap deal, Gadkari alleged, delivering the inaugural address at the national executive meet here today.

The State Government chose to ignore the peoples sentiments and followed the diktats of the Congress bosses, Gadkari, whose speech set the agenda for discussion during the two-day meet, further, charged.

The party later adopted the report submitted by the study group assigned by the national president to assess the ground situation in the border areas. The party-appointed study group has visited Indo-Bangladesh border and collected official documents from people in border areas. The delegation headed by Rajya Sabha MP SS Ahluwalia included Bijoya Chakravarty, Chandan Mitra, Rajiv Pratap Rudy, Kabindra Purkayastha, while Sarbananda Sonowal was the coordinator.

The resolution moved by Chandan Mitra and adopted by the national executive criticised the government for disregarding the local sentiments of the people. The party has asked the UPA Government to table the land transfer protocol in details in the Parliament. While appreciating the role of Bangladesh in helping the India in its fight against insurgency, the party felt that interest of the local people could not be ignored.
