BJP, Himanta misleading people: Gogoi

By Staff Correspondent

DIBRUGARH, April 5 - Former Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi today sharply criticised his one-time closest loyalist and now BJP leader Himanta Biswa Sarma and the BJP by saying that they were misleading the people of the State.

Addressing an election rally at Tengakhat, some 30 km from here, for Congress candidate Paban Singh Ghatowar of Dibrugarh Lok Sabha constituency, Gogoi said that present Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowals declaration to establish a corrupt-free State is a mere lie because the latter has taken along with him a man like Himanta Biswa Sarma.

He said Himanta is making false claims and indulging in propaganda. He is misleading the people of the State. They say Congress government did nothing in last 60 years. If that is so who built the Assam Medical College & Hospital, who established the gas cracker project, who built the Bogibeel bridge, Dhola-Sadiya bridge, airports, railways, broad gauge and four lane roads? They cannot even built the Tengakhat College road from Tengakhat town and they take credit for the Gas Cracker project and Bogibeel bridge. The road leading to the Chief Ministers house and several other roads continues to be in dilapidated state and they make tall claims. Their (BJP) party is really a party of bogus claims.

Gogoi further said that during Congress tenure, Himanta had praised him so much that he was blinded. For him I was one of the best Chief Ministers. Today after joining the BJP he calls me the most corrupt Chief Minister. We are simple people and showed love and affection. I loved him more than my son but at the end he stabbed me, Gogoi said.

Gogoi also slammed the Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal for his allegation that Congress did nothing for the people of the State. You stay in the guest house that I built. You run your office from Janata Bhawan that I built. Even the University from which you passed out was built by the Congress, he reminded the Chief Minister.

Tarun Gogoi also referred to Rameswar Teli as a nimati kanya stating that the incumbent MP does not raise questions or take up issues of the State in Parliament. He appealed to the people to ensure that Ghatowar emerged victorious.

The rally was also attended by the Congress candidate for the seat Paban Singh Ghatowar and former Duliajan MLA Amiya Gogoi among others. Tarun Gogoi also addressed a rally in Tingkhong LAC today.
