BJP for more time for claims, objections on NRC

By Staff Reporter

GUWAHATI, Aug 6 - Citing the huge figure of 40 lakh individuals whose names have not found place in the complete draft NRC, the ruling BJP has called for extension of the time period for filing claims and objections for inclusion of names in the final document.

The State unit of BJP has sent a letter to the Union Home Minister in this regard. As the excluded number of people in the draft NRC is a huge one, we request your honour to kindly take appropriate action to extend reasonable more time for claims and objections as well as disposal of the cases, stated the letter.

As per the existing schedule, the time for filing claims and objections is from August 30 to September 28.

The party has also expressed concern at some media reports where certain government officials have alleged that names of some foreigners have been included in the draft NRC.

The State BJP pointed out that while going through the NRC list it found that names of foreign nationals have been included in the NRC (second draft). In some places names of foreigners have been included in the NRC, the State BJP said, referring to allegations made by some high officials of the government. It requested the Union Home Minister to take note of the matter and take appropriate action in that regard.

The BJP has called for an error-free NRC.
