BJP flayed for terming Delhi NE people immigrants

By Staff Reporter

GUWAHATI, Feb 3 The Bharatiya Janata Partys (BJPs) denigration of the Delhi-based people of NE origin as immigrants in its manifesto for the Delhi provincial elections, has been widely resented in the State.

This act of the BJP has been termed by All Assam Students Union (AASU) as product of lunacy. It has demanded unconditional apology from the party.

President and general secretary of the students body Sankar Prasad Roy and Tapan Gogoi respectively, said in a joint statement here this evening that with this act, the BJP has insulted the people of the NE region.

This also speaks of the lack of knowledge of the leaders of the party about the region, asserted the AASU leaders.

In case of the failure of the BJP to tender an unconditional apology for this offence, the people of the region would not forgive it, warned the AASU leaders.

Congress: Strongly criticizing the BJP for terming the people of North East living in Delhi as immigrants, the Assam Pradesh Congress Committee president Anjan Dutta sought unconditional apology from Prime Minister Narendra Modi. He also alleged that the North East is not safe under the BJP and called upon the people of the region to boycott the BJP till the Prime Minister seeks apology.

KMSS: The Krishak Mukti Sangram Samiti (KMSS) has announced an agitational programme in protest against this vilification of the NE people by the BJP. Members of the KMSS will take part in a protest programme scheduled to commence at 11 am tomorrow on the bank of the Dighalipukhuri to voice their protest against the above act of the BJP, said a press release.
