BJP dist panels in BTC demand early election

KOKRAJHAR, June 7 - The four district committees of BJP in the BTC area today demanded early election.

In a joint press meet held at Kokrajhar today, the presidents of all the four district committees of BJP from Kokrajhar, Baksa, Udalguri and Chirang districts of BTC appealed to the State Election Commission for holding election at the earliest opportunity by following the government�s COVID-19 protocol.

It also urged the Election Commission to stress on social distancing and other norms to be followed during election campaign and casting of votes on poll days. It also appealed to the Election Commission to declare the time for casting votes from 5 am to 6 pm on the poll day instead of the earlier timings for the overall convenience of the voters.

The leaders clarified that BJP was ready to go to the hustings on its own in 26 BTC constituencies and also to form the Government alone.

Ram Dahal, BJP president of Baksa, Bibhuti Borgoyari, BJP president from Kokrajhar, Kartick Chandra Boro, BJP president from Udalguri and Biplab Debnath, BJP president of Chirang, among others, attended the press meet.

FIR lodged: In the meantime, in a bid to unearth largescale corruption in BTC, an FIR was lodged on Saturday at the Kokrajhar Police Station in connection with illegal appointments by the BTC administration.

In the FIR lodged by the United People�s Party Liberal (UPPL) central working committee member Rajkumar Prithhviraj Narayan Deb Mech, it was stated that eight illegal appointments were made recently against the post of Assistant Enforcement Inspector by Anil Chandra Deuri, Joint Commissioner of Transport, BTC, at the behest of the concerned Secretary of Transport Department and the then Executive Member of the Transport Department, Jagadish Sarkar.

Similarly, 20 Enforcement Checkers were illegally appointed on March 5 last by the same department, it was alleged in the FIR.

The UPPL demanded immediate legal action against those involved in these illegal appointments.

It was also mentioned that all these appointments were made illegally without any official circular nor written or oral interview, besides approval of the Central Selection Board of BTC.

A case was registered in this connection vide Kokrajhar PS Case No. 292/2020, U/S- 120(B)/ 406/420/ 409 of IPC. Accordingly, under the direction of the IGP, BTAD, Mukut Rabha, the Additional Superintendent of Police (Headquarter) Kokrajhar, is investigating the matter.
