BJP destroying parliamentary democracy: Manik Sarkar

By Correspondent

AGARTALA, Nov 27 - Former Tripura Chief Minister and current State Opposition leader Manik Sarkar today alleged that the BJP has been trying to destroy parliamentary democracy in the country, in an apparent attack on Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah over the Maharashtra episode.

Everybody knows what has happened in Maharashtra The people of the country have knowledge about Tuesdays Supreme Court ruling on Maharashtra. I do not want to elaborate, Sarkar said.

They want to sell the country to capitalists. If possible, they will even sell the countrys national flag! They do not have the minimum respect for democracy, the former Chief Minister said at a meet organised by Left student bodies here.

Sarkar also lashed out at the NDA Government on the new draft of the National Education Policy. I have come across the draft policy. The BJP has been persistently trying to go for privatisation of education. If one goes by the draft policy, it is clear that the Central Government is reluctant to take responsibility of the education system, he alleged.

Training his guns on the BJP-IPFT Government in Tripura, the former Chief Minister said it was pushing the education system to a bleak future. This Government is playing with the lives of students and teachers. Students will surely fight back to foil its sinister designs, he said.

Sarkar said the people of the State have realised that the coalition Government has failed to live up to their expectations.

The Students Federation of India and the Tribal Students Federation both frontal organisations of the CPI(M) organised the meet on a 14-point charter of demands.
