SILCHAR, May 8 Alleging financial irregularities against SN Singh, the Chief Executive Officer of Silchar Municipal Board, the Bharatiya Janata Party Town Mandal Committee has demanded Singhs immediate removal from the post.

More than 1,500 cadres with senior party leaders assembled outside the office of the Deputy Commissioner on Friday and gave slogans against SN Singh and also against the State Government for its step-motherly attitude towards the development of Silchar.

Dipayan Chakraborty, president of BJP Town Mandal Committee said that the activities of SN Singh as the CEO of the civic board have caused serious damage to the functioning of the present board. During his tenure, the works of Silchar Municipal Board was completely at halt. He was also involved in financial anomalies, Chakraborty claimed. He further said that Singh was reluctant to sign on the budget to be sent for approval despite repeated appeals. He also overstepped his administrative periphery and called tender for chemicals even before the new board was formed, which Chakraborty said was not in the powers of the CEO. The BJP Town Mandal cadres through a memorandum urged the Deputy Commissioner to take steps so that Singh is removed from his post.
