BJP, Cong pin hopes on victory

By Staff Correspondent

SILCHAR, Oct 18 - With only a day left for campaigning for by-election in Ratabari LAC under Karimganj district, parties and candidates in the fray are leaving no stone unturned to woo the voters.

The Karimganj district administration has taken elaborate measures to conduct the bypoll on October 21 in a peaceful manner.

On the other hand, as the campaign gained momentum in the final stages, nearly 100 people from Congress and other parties flocked to the BJP on Friday in the presence of State president Ranjit Kumar Dass, Karimganj BJP district president Subrata Bhattacharjee, Karimganj MP Kripanath Mallah, Patherkandi MLA Krishnendu Paul and other leaders.

Prem Ch Kanu, Singlacherra GP Congress mandal president, Krishna Mohan Rabidas (Ward Member), Mainul Haque (Bidyanagar ex GP president), are among the prominent faces who decided to swap their political camps.

Talking to The Assam Tribune, Subrata Bhattacharjee, president of Karimganj district BJP said that with 100 people from Congress party cadres joining the BJP on Friday, nearly 500 persons from Congress and other parties have come under the BJP banner in the run up to the bypoll so far. Our candidate will be blessed by the voters of Ratabari by a massive margin. The contrasting and confusing comments of the Congress party will bring about their own downfall. People of the constituency are eagerly waiting to keep the development spree unabated, Bhattacharjee maintained.

He informed that State BJP president Ranjit Dass has expressed great satisfaction and hope with the way people are showing their support towards BJP candidate Bijoy Malakar. The State BJP chief had reminded the people of the schemes taken up the Government at the Centre and the State, especially the revival of Son Beel as a global tourism site and assured to pump in resources for a facelift.

Interestingly, reacting on the preparations of the Congress party and the hopes on party candidate Keshab Prasad Rajak, North Karimganj MLA Kamalakshya Dey Purakayastha said that amidst lack of development initiatives, people of Ratabari shall reject the illusive promises of the BJP and vote the Congress candidate to power. The BJP has deprived local candidates and brought in a face from nowhere. There has been no visible development in the constituency for all these years since the BJP took over. Voters from all sections including tribals, Hindi-speaking and Bengali- speaking people are disgusted with the fake promises and the results shall reflect the simmering annoyance, he maintained.
