BJP concern over State developments

By Spl Correspondent

NEW DELHI, March 8 Taken aback by the sharp reactions over handling of nomination, the BJP central leadership has convened a meeting of the partys four MPs on Wednesday ahead of the second round of meeting of the central election committee.

Party sources said that the BJP central leadership is concerned over the developments in Assam over distribution of tickets that led to ransacking of its head office in Guwahati last week.

The four MPs, who have been sulking for being kept in the dark finally, saw some hope, when they were told that a meeting has been convened to discuss the issue of seat distribution.

BJP Lok Sabha MP Ramen Deka confirmed it, stating that the central leadership has called them for a meeting tomorrow.

The meeting is expected to be chaired by national president, Nitin Gadkari and joined by other senior leaders besides Rajen Gohain, Ramen Deka, Kabindra Purkayastha and Bijoya Chakravarty.

The resentment surfaced after the first list of 54 candidates was announced last week with Rajen Gohain threatening to quit from the post of deputy chairmanship of partys campaign committee. The State leadership has also reacted by filing an adverse report against Gohain alleging that he had a hand behind the incident.

The State leadership led by Ranjit Dutta, meanwhile, is arriving here tomorrow to take part in the meeting of the central election committee that is likely to be postponed till March 10. The meeting was earlier scheduled to be held on Wednesday, said sources.
