BJP chief to arrive in Imphal today

IMPHAL, June 29 - Hectic preparations are on for the arrival of BJP president Amit Shah here tomorrow.

The BJP chief will arrive here around 11.15 am on Saturday to attend a series of meetings with the party leaders of all the NE States, excluding Assam, party sources said.

�Party leaders from Tripura, Arunachal Pradesh, Mizoram, Nagaland, Sikkim and Meghalaya will be here to attend the meeting,� said a senior member of the BJP�s media affairs. Tripura Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb and his Arunachal Pradesh counterpart Pema Khandu are also expected to attend the meeting which is being organised to prepare the party workers for the 2019 Lok Sabha polls.

Shah will leave for New Delhi after meeting the party leaders from the NE States one after another on Sunday morning.

Meanwhile, Union Minister of State for Home Kiren Rijiju arrived here this noon on a two-day visit to Manipur.

On his arrival, the Union minister was accorded warm welcome by Rajya Sabha member Kh Bhabananda, who is also the BJP�s Manipur unit president, and Works Minister Thongam Biswajit at the Imphal International Airport.

Later, Rijiju drove to a hotel and attended a security-related meeting at the Chief Minister�s secretariat here, sources said. Rijiju is likely to leave the State tomorrow, the sources added.

On the other hand, Union Minister of State for Electronics and IT SS Ahluwalia also arrived here to attend a series of meetings. On his arrival, Ahluwalia attended a skill development course certificate distribution function at the NIELIT complex at Akampat here. The function was also attended by the top NIELIT officials including its Director General Rajib Kumar.

Both the visiting Union ministers separately called on Chief Minister N Biren Singh here.
