BJP Cachar unit for installing Atal statue

By Staff Correspondent

SILCHAR, Oct 7 - The BJP Cachar district unit has proposed installing a statue of former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee at the zero point of Silchar-Saurashtra Mahasadak. Silchar MP Dr Rajdeep Roy informed on Tuesday that he has sent a letter to National Highway Authority of India chairman Sukhbir Singh Sandhu in this regard.

I have written to the NHAI chairman expressing the will of the partys district unit to install the statue of Vajpayee ji at the zero point of the Mahasadak on December 25 this year. I am expecting a positive response to the letter. BJP national leaders along with top leaders of the partys State unit are expected to join the occasion to unveil the 10 feet tall bronze statue on Vajpayee jis birth anniversary, the MP told media persons. He further informed that steps are being taken to find and finalise a suitable location at the zero point here for installation of the statue.

On the other hand, making his stance clear on the questions raised on the revival of the closed HPC paper mills at Cachar and Nagaon, Dr Roy said, the intentions are very clear. The Government has the will to revive the mills which are national assets. There might be a welcoming development to this context in the next three months. He was quick to say that in the recent Parliament session, he had raised questions on the reopening of the mills and also voiced his concerns on the Central Government Health Scheme (CGHS) issue. My heart goes out to those who died and the families of the mill employees striving in dire straits because of the closure, he told the reporters.
