BJP Assam in-charge on State visit

By STAFF REPORTER

GUWAHATI, Dec 16 - A month after he was appointed by the party as Assam in-charge (prabhari), BJP vice president Baijayant Jay Panda on Wednesday arrived in the city on a two-day visit to the State.

He is being accompanied by co-in-charge Pawan Sharma.

Both the senior leaders were given a rousing welcome by party workers at the Lokpriya Gopinath Bordoloi International Airport here.

The duo attended a meeting of Assam office-bearers at the State party headquarters, which was followed by a series of separate meetings with district party functionaries, Morcha leaders, spokespersons and the media team of the party at Srimanta Sankaradeva Kalakshetra.

Later, Panda held a meeting with Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal at his official residence.

It was his first visit as in-charge. The meetings were more or less introductory in nature. He will be addressing the media tomorrow, a party spokesman said.

Party sources said Union Home Minister Amit Shah is also scheduled to visit the State on December 26. Though Shah will be on an official visit, he is likely to meet senior party leaders and State unit functionaries to take stock of the preparations for the coming assembly elections.
