BJP alleges anomalies in NRC

By Correspondent

SILCHAR, July 23 - The Cachar district committee of the Bharatiya Janata Party has alleged that there are gross anomalies in the ongoing submission process of the National Register of Citizens (NRC).

BJP State general secretary Dr Rajdip Roy and district president Kaushik Rai said that a vicious circle is running foul business at some NSKs on the pretext of providing legacy data. The BJP leaders sought the attention of the district administration to put a check on the illegal practices and penalise the wrong doers.

Kaushik also informed that they will approach Prateek Hazela, the State Nodal Officer to uphold the guidelines prescribed by the Supreme Court on the NRC. He further said that the party will appeal to the State Nodal Officer to see that people from other States residing here must feature in the NRC. Moreover, they will also demand extension of the last date for submission till December 31 as a huge section of the population is yet to submit the forms. Only 18 per cent people have submitted their forms till July 22 which is why extension of date is imperative, Kaushik said.

On the other hand, reacting to the statements made by Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi on the NRC, Rajdip said he (Gogoi) is shifting his opinions eyeing votes in the 2016 elections.
