GUWAHATI, Feb 18 - the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and the All India United Democratic Front (AIUDF) today hit out against State Minister Siddeque Ahmed for his allegations against the parties.
Ahmed alleged yesterday that the AIUDF had taken Rs 120 crore from the BJP to extend support to the party in the ensuing State Assembly polls.
Talking to The Assam Tribune, spokesman of the State unit of the BJP, Bijon Mahajan said that the allegation by Ahmed was totally baseless. He said that if the Minister concerned has any proof in support of his statement, he should come out with facts in public. Mahajan warned that if the Minister fails to give proof immediately, legal action may follow.
Meanwhile, the AIUDF alleged that the Congress leaders were making baseless statements out of frustration because the party was losing ground among the people of the State.
Spokesman of the AIUDF, Aminul Islam said that the Congress high command wanted an alliance between the Congress and the AIUDF, while, the State leaders of the Congress also wanted the same. He said the AIUDF was not against a Bihar-style grand alliance of secular forces to prevent the BJP from coming to power. But as such a grand alliance did not materialise, there is no question of forging an alliance with the Congress.
Islam said that frustrated over the failure to forge an alliance with the AIUDF, the Congress was making baseless allegations to malign the image of the AIUDF. In fact, Siddeque Ahmed had personally tried for an alliance with the AIUDF and after his failure to do so, he started making wild allegations to please the leaders of the Congress.
The AIUDF is not entering into any pre-poll alliance with any party and the decision on post-poll alliances, if required, would be taken on the basis of the public mandate, said Islam.
