Biswanath Chariali police custody for Daimary

GUWAHATI, May 25 � After NDFB chief Ranjan Daimary was sent to judicial custody by the Court of Special Judicial Magistrate (First Class) following the expiry of nine days CBI custody today, the Court of Chief Judicial Magistrate, Kamrup later directed the jail authority to hand over the militant leader to the Biswanath Chariali police in connection with the Bhimajuli massacre.

The CJM, Kamrup asked the jail authority to hand over Daimary to the investigating officer of the Bhimajuli case on the strength of the production warrant issued by the Court of SDJM, Biswanath Chariali.

�The CBI did not seek any extension of the remand and Daimary, on the strength of the production warrant, would be produced tomorrow at SDJM court in connection with the Biswanath Chariali police station case number 151/09,� Manas Sarania, counsel for Daimary, said. Advocate Babul Daimary and Saifuddin Ahmed also represented Daimary in the court.

The NDFB chairman, who was handed over to Assam Police by Bangladesh, has so far been grilled in connection with Special Operation Unit case number 2/98 and the Basistha police station case number 162/2000. The Basistha police station case relates to the murder of Bineswar Brahma, the then president of Bodo Sahitya Sabha.

The CBI is also prosecuting Daimary in connection with the October 30, 2008 serial bomb blasts.
