Biswakarma Puja sans pomp and grandeur

By Staff Reporter

GUWAHATI, Sept 18 - Biswakarma Puja, the occasion to revere the divine architect and engineer Lord Biswakarma, was celebrated on Thursday amid COVID-19-induced restrictions. Even as the State missed all the pomp and grandeur this year, devotees performed the rituals with austerity, seeking divine blessings for restoration of normalcy.

As per the Vedic rituals, idols were brought to factories, offices and other industrial establishments the previous evening and the puja was performed early Thursday morning. As huge gatherings, big pandals, decorative lightings, etc., were restricted by the government, most of the establishments opted for smaller idols this time.

In Guwahati too, people missed the festivities with no pandal-hopping or processions. Khichiri, one of the main attractions of Biswakarma Puja pandals, was also dearly missed this year.

As the festivities were mostly confined to homes, people cleaned their vehicles and machines etc., and performed puja at home.
