Bismillah Khan awards for State artistes

NEW DELHI, July 1 � Noted artiste and exponent of Satriya dance form Menaka PP Bora and upcoming young director Sukracharya Rabha have been selected for the prestigious Ustad Bismillah Khan Yuva Puraskar 2009 instituted by Sangeet Natak Akademi.

Several other budding artistes from the North-east have also been selected for the Award announced by the Akademi here today.

They include Moirangthem Meina Singh for Other Major Traditions of Music - Nata Sankirtana of Manipur. Zohmingliana for Tribal Dance and Music (Mizoram) in the category of Other Traditional/Folk/Tribal Dance, Music, Theatre and Puppetry

The Sangeet Natak Akademi, National Academy of Music, Dance and Drama, the apex body of performing arts in the country, has selected 32 artistes of India who have made a mark as young talents in their respective fields of performing arts for the Ustad Bismillah Khan Yuva Puraskar 2009.

The Ustad Bismillah Khan Yuva Puraskar introduced in 2006, is given to artistes below the age of 35 years. The Puraskar carries a cash award of Rs 25,000.
