IMPHAL, April 22 - Manipur�s Bishnupur district has bagged �Prime Minister�s Awards for Excellence in Public Administration,� for excellence in implementing �Promoting Digital Payments,� in the group North East and Hill States, in New Delhi.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi conferred the award to Deputy Commissioner Pawan Yadav of the district on the occasion of National Civil Services Day at Vigyan Bhawan in New Delhi on Saturday.
The award for the district which has an average literacy rate of 75.8 per cent, was given for making Manipur�s lake island Karang the first cashless island of the country, by providing training towards digital payments, according to reports.
Bishnupur having a total of 49 villages, was in the news recently for becoming the second open defecation-free (ODF) district in Manipur after Senapati.
