Bishnu Rabha Divas function at Barpeta

BARPETA, June 18 - The Directorate of Cultural Affairs will organise the Bishnu Rabha Divas this year at Barpeta on June 20. This was formally announced on Saturday by the Deputy Commissioner of Barpeta Thaneswar Malakar.

Addressing a press meet in the conference room of his office, Malakar said that Bishnu Rabha Award 2017 will also be awarded in the open meeting to be held on this ocassion that day. Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal will attend the day-long programme as the chief guest. He will also present the Bishnu Rabha Award to noted artist Pulak Gogoi and Sailen Saikia.

Prithwiraj Rabha, son of the Kalaguru will grace the ocassion among other dignitaries. The Deputy Commissioner also informed that a number of songs and other cultural activities have been planned based on the classic masterpieces of Rabha, the admnistration will also organise a cultural procession to showcase the rich cultural heritage of Barpeta and amous artists of the district will perform other performing arts.

Our Rangiya Correspondent adds: Under the aegies of the Bishnu Rabha Divas Udjapaan Samiti, Rangiya and in association with IPTA, SFI, DYFI, AIKS, Natun Sahitya Parishad, Rabha Divas is being organised centrally on June 20 at the IOC Chowk near Goroka of the locality.

In this regard, an essay contest in two different groups� group A from Class VIII to X (topic- Bishnu Prasad Rabha) and group B from class XI to Degree level students ( topic- Ideals of Bishnu Pradad Rabha) is being organised coinciding with the event.

Lalit Kalita, secretary of the organising committee has invited essays from students on or before June 23 next requesting them to submit the same at Siddhinath Bidyamandir High School or at Govinda Press/ Dipak Kalita, Rangiya College. An art competition is also being organised among the students on June 23 by the organisers.
