GUWAHATI, Oct 11 - The 568th birth anniversary of the great Vaishnava saint Srimanta Sankaradeva, the founder of neo-Vaishnavism in Assam, was observed all over the State in a befitting manner with religious prayers and cultural programmes at the naamghars and sattras. At many places, bhaonas were staged by the local cultural troupes in the evening as part of the celebrations.
In some places, cultural processions were taken out by the followers of the Vaishnavite cult. However, in some areas, the processions planned on the occasion were postponed because the occasion coincided with the Bijoya Dashami celebrations of the Durga Puja festival.
