MANGALDAI, Oct 8 - The 571st �tirobhav tithi of Srimanta Sankaradeva was observed in Darrang district on Tuesday along with the rest of the State. The birth anniversary of the great Vaishnavite saint was observed centrally by the Darrang district chapter of Srimanta Sankardeva Sangha at Chintagaon, Kalaigaon with a two-day long programme.
All the 155 primary branches under 13 anchalik committees of the district body observed the festival separately with a day-long programme. The Mangaldai Nagar Primary unit of the Sangha also celebrated it on the premises of the Mangaldai Kendriya Naamghar with a variety of cultural and spiritual programmes. �Bhagawat Bhraman�, a traditional procession carrying the holy book Bhagawat on the head was also held. Earlier Kiron Saikia Bora, the president of the Nagar Prathamik branch hoisted the organisational flag.
