GUWAHATI, Oct 17 - Floral tributes were paid to Singhapurush Radha Govinda Baruah on the occasion of his birth anniversary at a function organised in the RG Baruah Sports Complex here today. Lamp was lighted at his statue and photo in the complex on the occasion. Keeping in view the contribution made by him towards the development of sports in Assam, his birth anniversary is observed as the State Sports Day.
Those present on the occasion included Onkar Kedia, Director General, Sports Authority of Assam; Lakhya Konwar, General Secretary, Assam Olympic Association and Dharma Kanta Mili, Director (Sports) and Secretary, Board of Sports of Assam.
The Sports Authority of Assam is also organising a prize money essay competition for students. The competition is divided into two categories: junior category (children from 9 to 15 years) and senior category (children from 16 to 21 years). The topic for the junior category is �Contribution of Singhapurush Radha Govinda Baruah to Sports in Assam� and for senior category �Importance of Sports in Educational Institutions�. In each category, cash awards of Rs 1500, 1000 and 500 will be given to the top three entries. The last date of submission is October 31. Entries need to be sent to [email protected].
The results will be declared on November 14.
