Birth anniversary of Dr Purna Narayan Sinha celebrated

TEZPUR, Oct 23 - The 106th birth anniversary of Dr Purna Narayan Sinha was celebrated at the Sahitya Sabha Bhavan here recently. The programme organized by the Jananeta Late Dr Purna Narayan Sinha Memorial Foundation, saw participation of leading citizens, students and artistes of Tezpur.

The programme began with a satriya dance by Astha Baruah and was conducted by the chairman of the foundation, Dr Parashmani Sinha. The president of the foundation, Dr Thaneswar Dutta presided over the programme, which was attended by a host of dignitaries, including noted artist Hemraj Rabha as the chief guest. Social workers Dr Lakhi Goswami, Minakshi Bhuyan, Rajib Das and Rajen Bora, noted writer Mrinali Chetia, advocate Ananta Goswami, president of the Sonitpur District Chapter of Assam Koch Rajbongshi Mahila Samiti, Lakhi Baruah, senior journalist Anwar Ahmed and Phanidhar Baruah, Superintendent of Dekargaon Railway station, Khirud Sinha also took part in the programme.

In his speech, Hemraj Rabha gave a brief sketch on the life of Dr Purna Narayan Sinha and his contribution towards the society. �Dr Sinha highlighted problems of the State in the Parliament in a proper way. If we go deep into the life of Late Dr Purna Narayan Sinha, we can understand what is the role of a parliamentarian,� he said. Rabha added that Sinha was not only a parliamentarian, but also a spokesman who highlighted the cultural heritage of Tezpur at the national level.

Participating in the programme, Mrinali Chetia narrated Sinha�s contribution in different fields. �The young generation should follow the path of Dr Sinha for a better society,� she said.

Leading social workers, including Dr Lakhi Goswami, Minakshi Bhuyan and Rajib Das and advocate Ananta Goswami were awarded by the foundation.

Earlier, Manisha Sinha, executive director of the foundation highlighted the aims and objectives of the foundation. Vice-president Ranjita Sinha Dutta urged the people of Tezpur to offer their suggestions and extend all possible help.
