SILCHAR, Sept 10 - The 89th birth anniversary of music maestro, Dr Bhupen Hazarika, was celebrated in Cachar district.
As a part of the celebrations under the Chief Minister�s Special Package project, Dr Bhupen Hazarika memorial open stages were inaugurated at Alipur tea estate, Lakhipur development block, Laboc GP, Fulertal, and Binnakandie development block in the district. Besides this, an auditorium was also inaugurated at Laboc tea estate in Raja Bazar. Cachar Deputy Commissioner S Vishwanathan and Lakhipur MLA Rajdeep Goala along with other dignitaries attended the ceremony and offered floral tributes to the late music maestro.
Speaking on the occasion, S Viswanathan said that it is a great initiative and people must use the open stage and auditorium in a proper manner for the expansion of cultural activities. It may be mentioned that as many as 15 such open stages in the memory of Dr Hazarika have been listed under the project and already 13 have been inaugurated.
