GUWAHATI, Nov 18 - Publisher and editor of Assamese fortnigtly magazine Prantik Pradip Baruah has been nominated for the Birendra Kumar Bhattacharyya Award, 2020. The award is given by the State government every year in memory of Jnanpith award winning litterateur late Dr Birendra Kumar Bhattacharyya. The award carries Rs 2 lakh and a citation.
Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal will present the award to Pradip Baruah at a function to be held at Rabindra Bhawan here on November 21. Pradip Baruah has been contributing to Assamese journalism and literature for the past several decades. Since December 1981 he has been publishing Prantik through which Assam got a galaxy of talented writers.
He was also involved with the Assam Tribune Group through which he stepped into the world of journalism after completing his formal education.
Guwahati Development Department Minister Siddhartha Bhattacharya, Cultural Affairs Minister Naba Kumar Doley, Guwahati MP Queen Oja will also be present at the award function.
